Armin Van Buuren - 76 (2003)

Armin Van Buuren - 76 (2003) [Lossless]

X Lossless Decoder rip | Flac, tracks + .cue, log-file | Covers | Rar 4% rec. | 510 MB

Genre: Electronica Trance | Label: Ultra Records

Armin van Buuren's full production debut, 76, picks up where the futuristic Euro-disco of Jean-Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder left off 15 years before. Like Jarre and Moroder, van Buurin knows how to construct hypnotic and driving songs that have little to do with the massive washes of sound his trance competitors churn out and have everything to do with head-bobbing living-room listening. Not that van Buurin can't fill a dancefloor, but he's left that to his 12" releases and made 76 such a cohesive listen it comes off as an early-morning Ibiza mix album. Guest vocals are handled by frequent collaborators Justine Suissa and Victoria Horn along with a surprisingly good appearance by blink-and-you-missed-him Genesis vocalist Ray Wilson on "Yet Another Day." "From the Heart" (with Ferry Corsten guesting under his System F guise) is another winner with a synth line right out of Midnight Express, while "Blue Fear 2003" updates Armin's 1995 hit superbly. Unlike Oakenfold and others, van Buurin is well aware of his limitations. It means there's hardly a groundbreaking moment included, but 76 is favorable for the more reserved tranceheads and fans of progressive electronic and disco's brief and glistening love affair. ~ David Jeffries

Salvatore Bonafede — Piano
Marco Panascia — Bass
Marcello Pellitteri — Drums

A tight little combo from the Italian scene – one that features the piano of Salvatore Bonafede in the lead, working through a range of soulful and lyrical modes! Some numbers have a bold force that really grabs us nicely, but these are offset by some softer, more sound-sensitive tracks that show a distinct Bill Evans influence – but in a well-evolved way that's hardly a copycat of Bill, more a distillation of his essence, taken into some hip new territory. Bass is by Marco Panascia and drums are by Marcello Pellitteri – and the album's definitely got that "cut above" quality that you'll find on other Jazz Eyes titles. Cuts include "Ideal Standard", "Sicilian Opening", "It Plays From Far", "Blackbird", "Torre Ligny", "Lode Al Silenzo", and "Italian Igegno"

Tom Schuman was born on January 31, 1958, in Buffalo, NY. His father, Wally, was a jazz bassist and his mother, Marion, was a jazz singer when they met. Greatly influenced by this family of musicians, Tom began playing piano by ear at age six. His parents were reluctant to give him lessons because of their own struggles with the music business. When they heard him playing jazz chords, improvising and writing tunes at age seven, they felt compelled to provide him with all of the musical support a child could possibly have.

He started studying classical piano in 1965. For five years he practiced every day after school but soon grew an aversion to classical piano because of its lack of freedom. He always preferred to "jam" on the classical chord structures instead of playing what was written. One of his teachers, Sandi Holland, was impressed with his natural talent and arranged for him to play and be interviewed on a local radio program. He played Chopin's Prelude in E-minor (as written). Then he played a jazz standard with his dad on bass and friend, Charlie Fadale, on drums. He picked "How Insensitive" because of its melodic similarities to the Chopin Prelude. He was eleven at the time. This experience gave him enough motivation to continue his musical education.
