It's Dark and Hell Is Hot is the debut album of American rapper DMX, released May 19, 1998 on Def Jam subsidiary Ruff Ryders Records.[1] The album featured four singles with music videos, "Get at Me Dog", "Stop Being Greedy", "How's It Goin' Down" and the "Ruff Ryders Anthem". The album is widely considered a hip hop classic by numerous hip hop fans and critics, mainly due to its revitalization of the hardcore rap mainstream scene, after Puff Daddy and Bad Boy Entertainment briefly dominated the charts with their pop-orientated and sample-reliant songs.

Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood is the second album released in 1998 by rapper DMX.It entered the charts at number one (and stayed there for 3 consecutive weeks) with an impressive 670,000 units shipped in the first week.[2] The album eventually went 3x Multi-Platinum. DMX released his debut album It's Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998 as well. He was the second rapper to have two albums released in the same year debut at number one on Billboard's Top 200, the first being Tupac Shakur with his albums, All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. All but his latest album Year of the Dog… Again have debuted at number one. The single "Slippin'" became his first chart hit in the UK and is censored on both the "censored" and "explicit" versions of the USA release of the album. Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood was also released in a censored version with most profanity replaced with sound effects and explicit violence left uncensored. Drug content was also left uncensored in both versions of the album.

The first single of the album, the club banger 'What's My Name' was released, which got heavy rotation on both radio and television. The album sold very well selling roughly 698,000 in its first week and went on to be certified 5x Platinum making it DMX's best-selling album to date. It also reached #1 on the Billboard chart yet again, firmly ranking DMX within hip hop's only artist to have all 3 (eventually, leading up to 5) of their albums reach the #1 spot.
